The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) made multiple announcements recently relating to three different bridges, including the opening of a new bridge between Little Rock and North Little Rock, lane closures due to a bridge inspection and reduced weight limits on a bridge in need of repairs.
The Interstate 40 Mississippi River Bridge will undergoing inspection, resulting in an alternating single outside lane closure Monday through Thursday beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6, over a period of approximately four weeks, between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (westbound outside), and between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m (eastbound side).
Interstate 30 traffic will be shifted onto the new Arkansas River bridge between Little Rock and North Little Rock, which will allow construction crews to begin demolition on the existing river bridge. The shift is planned to begin Thursday, Sept. 1, and will happen in three phases though Sept. 17. The Browns Creek Bridge in Yell County, near Plainview on Highway 38, has new weight restrictions, as the bridge is in need of repairs and lower weights are necessary to ensure safe operation. For a Code 4 (3 axle) or Code 9 (4 axle) vehicle, the new limit is three tons. For a Code 5 (5 axle) vehicle, the limit is five tons. These limits will remain in place until further notice.
