Anchor Packaging has broken ground on a new 90,000-square-foot expansion of its Paragould manufacturing facility.

This expansion represents a $21.5 million investment for the St. Louis, Mo.-based company. Over the course of 30 months, Anchor expects to create 45 new jobs at the plant.

Anchor operates six facilities in Arkansas, spread across Jonesboro, Marmaduke and Jonesboro. The company employs approximately 1,100 individuals at its Arkansas plants, according to an Arkansas Economic Development Commission release.

The company opened its first Arkansas manufacturing facility in Marmaduke in 1985, followed by a facility in Paragould in 1990, which focuses on sheet extrusion and thermoforming of plastic containers, according to Anchor’s corporate website.

Anchor’s North American shipments are directed through distribution centers in Paragould and Jonesboro.

This is not the first expansion Anchor has invested in at the Paragould plant. The company expanded its rigid containers facility in 2008.

“Anchor Packaging has a rich 58-year history protecting food, including moving its manufacturing operations to Northeast Arkansas communities over 35 years ago.  I am proud to say we have never had a lay-off.  Re-investing in the region comes naturally as we have outstanding employees, many second and third generation, coupled with an evergrowing business focused on sustainable food packaging solutions,” Anchor Packaging president and CEO Jeff Wolff said in a statement.  “Our safety accomplishments and consecutive record production levels over the past several years are evidence of the pride and ownership every Anchor team member takes in producing high-quality packaging that best meets the evolving needs of our customers.”

The company, founded in 1963, produces rigid food containers and foodservice cling film. Its products include Crisp Food Technologies containers and Safe Pinch Tamper-Evident containers, as well as more than 450 rigid containers and cling film products.
