Tyson Foods is expanding production at the Wright Brand Bacon facility in Vernon, Texas, with plans to create 32 new jobs. This $26 million expansion will boost the facility’s total employment to more than 800.
This expansion comes as the market for bacon has rapidly increased in recent years. The expansion is expected to allow Wright Brand to capitalize on the increased demand.
The bacon market has increased its market growth, rising 18 percent since 2017, according to a Tyson Foods news release. Wright Brand surpassed this figure, increasing its volume by 29 percent during the same time period.
“We’re pleased we can continue to build on the proud heritage of this iconic and delicious brand,” Noelle O’Mara, group president of Prepared Foods for Tyson Foods, Inc., said in a statement. “More importantly, we’ve had a strong presence in Vernon for nearly 100 years as one of the largest employers. It’s an honor to continue that long history by adding new jobs in the local community.”
Tyson Foods and its affiliated companies operate 10 food processing plants in Texas with more than 12,000 employees in the state.
The expansion is slated to be completed by March 2021.
